Set Sail Into History

Join us for an unforgettable cruise around beautiful Bainbridge Island, where history will come to life right before your eyes!

As we glide through the scenic waters of the Puget Sound, a lineup of dynamic and engaging speakers—each with a unique connection to Bainbridge Island—will share captivating stories, local legends, and fascinating insights into the island’s rich past.

Hear from Bill Covert, a former Bainbridge School teacher with a passion for local history (our 2024 History Hero); Frank Pritchard, a Bainbridge Island local and son of Joel Pritchard, co-inventor of the beloved game of Pickleball; Penny Fox Lamping, a Bainbridge High School graduate who spent her career working with local Bainbridge companies; and Becky Fox Marshall, also a Bainbridge High graduate and former journalist with Sound Publishing.

From tales of early settlers to the deep Indigenous heritage of the land, you’ll experience Bainbridge Island like never before. It’s the perfect blend of discovery, storytelling, and fun—all set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Pacific Northwest.

Bios of Our Speakers

Penny Lamping Bio: She was born and raised on Bainbridge Island and graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1968. After marrying her high school sweetheart, the couple returned to Bainbridge in 1972—moving into the very house where she grew up. Her parents built a new home just across the street, which is now home to her sister (Becky).

She and her husband have two children, both graduates of Bainbridge High School. Their daughter, Kate, works on the island and lives just five minutes away with her husband and daughter. Their son is a chef and lives in Everett with his wife.

After spending several years as a stay-at-home mom, she returned to school in the early 1990s to study CAD (computer-aided design), which led to a position with Zimmerman Architecture. In 2010, she transitioned into a new career with Housing Resources Bainbridge, where she held a variety of roles before retiring in 2021.

Becky Marshall Fox Bio: She is a 1972 graduate of Bainbridge High School, went on to earn a journalism degree from Western Washington University in Bellingham. She began her career as a criminal justice reporter for the Bellingham Herald before returning to Bainbridge Island in 1982, shortly before the birth of her first daughter, Abby—who is now a teacher at Blakely Elementary School. Her second daughter, Claire, was born in 1985.

Becky spent more than a decade with Sound Publishing, serving as a reporter, columnist, and editor for the Bainbridge Review and the Silverdale Reporter. She also played a key role in establishing a centralized copy desk at the company’s Day Road facility. As the newspaper industry began to change, Becky transitioned into the online travel sector, working for several dot-com companies before becoming the hotel content manager at Expedia.com.

In 2006, tired of the commute to Bellevue, she joined Town & Country Markets as a marketing manager, a role she held until her retirement in 2021.

Since 2005, Becky has lived in the Crystal Springs home her parents built during her senior year of high school—just across the street from her childhood home, which is now occupied by her sister and brother-in-law. Three of their combined four children currently live on Bainbridge Island.
